government type

[edit]

belarus is not dictatorship according to 1 article of constitution of republic of belarus fix it 91.223.70.208 (talk) 17:50, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The many reliable sources cited in the article say otherwise. --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 17:57, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
By "many," you mean two, and one of those two is the United States government. Do you see why that might not be very reliable? Pdequation (talk) 19:08, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I've found a misspelling in the section "Independence": "janurary" -> "January" AX29 (talk) 18:10, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That whole paragraph needed copyediting, let me know if I missed something. Mellk (talk) 18:19, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Lukashenko Era

[edit]

This section needs some balancing. Today, Belarus is classified at the HDI as a very highly devloped country (see Economy of Belarus). It has one of the lowest gini coefficients in Europe and a relatively good GDP per capita. At this section, and others, the article veers away from WP:NPOV. I will edit after waiting here for other editors' comments. Emmentalist (talk) 09:28, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please add some offices into country infobox

[edit]

It would be great if the Chair of the House of Representatives, the Speaker of the Council of the Republic and the Chief Justice were also added. 78.177.160.99 (talk) 21:35, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Are they as key to reader understanding as the existing ones? CMD (talk) 01:38, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Kurapaty, Soviet repressions

[edit]

It's better to delete "250,000 killed in Kurapaty" figure, which is complete nonsense. According to the Soviet archives - 27,000 people were executed during Great Purge in Belarus (not only in Kurapaty). Iges04 (talk) 01:22, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

? Could you correct this article and description of Kurapaty ("250,000 killed")? https://communistcrimes.org/en/countries/belarus «Altogether 250,000 persons were convicted for political reasons in the Byelorussian SSR between November 1917 and April 1953 by the judiciary and extrajudicial bodies (troikas, dvoikas, special commissions), and more than 35,000 were shot». Source: У. Адамушка. Палітычныя рэпрэсіі 1920–1950-х гг. на Беларусі. Minsk, 1994, pp 9-10. Many people were executed in other locations. Kurapaty was not the only killing site. Why you allow constan editing and changing history, the mentioned facts removed?

[edit]

Belarus was independent during Russian revolution only few years before it was taken over, please put tgat fact back, someone removed. Ginsburg21 (talk) 13:48, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Misleading. There were several 'independent' state formations on the territory of Belarus during this period. Mellk (talk) 15:43, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Biased File Description in the article

[edit]

The file uses the following description: "Principalities in Eastern Europe before the Mongol and Lithuanian invasions" in the article about Belarus. This title is misleading. Firstly, because in the article itself it says "There are no sources of military seizure, but the annals affirm the alliance and united foreign policy of Polotsk and Lithuania". Secondly, the original name of the map is "Kyivan Rus' 1220-1240". I kindly request to correct the description to "Principalities in Eastern Europe before the Mongol invasion". 93.212.108.155 (talk) 13:53, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly, the file description is a matter for Commons - its outside the remit of English Wikipedia. The caption in the article does use the same description - that is within our remit. It's up to us what the caption is. However S.C. Rowell (2014). Lithuania Ascending. Cambridge University Press. p. 20. ISBN 978-1-107-65876-9. does refer to the "lithuanian invasions" while also saying the circumstances remain obscure. So I don't really see the caption as incorrect.
